Singapore, 1 June 2012 – National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) and Singapore-based Beach House Pictures today announced the co-production of a new one-hour special, Fight Club Asia, in both 3D and 2D. The special offers an inside look at the gritty, dramatic world of professional Muay Thai fighters, as they leap from backstreet fight clubs to massive arenas. It will premiere internationally on National Geographic Channel this June.
Venturing across Thailand, the special tracks three ambitious fighters as they compete for their livelihoods in poorly lit car parks, a back-to-basics fight camp in the mountains of northern Thailand and Bangkok’s Lumpinee Boxing stadium. Training is intense with fighters pushing themselves to the limit for hours, every day – all in the hopes of escaping poverty and finding their own bit of fame and fortune.
Implementing a specialized handheld 3D camera rig and a unique shooting system, Fight Club Asia creates a powerful visual experience that captures the intense competition and tenacity of the fighters during training sessions and fights.
“This production is a great showcase of our dedication in combining new technologies with good storytelling. It was unknown territory but we came out the other side having achieved more than we ever thought possible,” added Donovan Chan, Creative Director of Beach House Pictures.
