BHP Managing Director Jocelyn Little says that there’s nothing like a pat on the back from prestigious events like the New York Festival Awards to kick the year off.

“This is the perfect start to 2013 and showcases our ability to tell great stories in a wide range of genres, from history to engineering and even natural history programs. We love what we do so these nominations are a huge encouragement to the whole team,” says Ms Little.

BHP’s Mao’s Cold War China vs USA episode (coproduction for Discovery Networks Asia and distributed by OTF), was selected as a finalist in the television documentary/Information Program: History & Society category, and Mao’s Cold War China vs India episode was selected for the Television-Craft: Program Best Writing category.

The Great Elephant Gathering (coproduction with NGCI, OTF, MDA and distributed by OTF) was selected for the Documentary/Information Program: Nature & Wildlife section and Megastructures – Gardens by the Bay (coproduction with NGCI, OTF, MDA and distributed by OTF) got the nod for the prestigious Television-Craft: Program Best Editing category.

“Being nominated for these awards always adds some excitement to the mix, and enthuses everyone to push their current projects to the max, to do all that they can to make them shine on the global stage,” says BHP Creative Director Donovan Chan.

The awards ceremony honoring The World’s Best TV & Films will take place on Tuesday April 9 at The NAB Show in Las Vegas. The 2013 Grand Trophy winning entries will be the subject of an NAB Show Creative Master Series session on 10 April.

This film showcases Asian construction company Woh Hup’s rich history of projects and also the importance of the company’s core values. Woh Hup’s latest mega-project is brought to focus: Gardens by the Bay. The team spearheads the Gardens’ $350 million dollar conservatories and the video showcases the process and steps taken to ensure this project is a success.

Based on the success of our Nokia videos, CNN Go commissioned BHP to produce a global advertisement feature that was then launched online as 3 short videos. Shot entirely on DSLR, each video chronicles the experience of a contest winner on an exotic Asian getaway. BHP and CNN Go teamed up with Hilton Hotels & Resorts for this production.

In this groundbreaking series, kids aged 8-12 are given the chance to research, direct, edit and even star in their very own Discovery style mini-documentary! Watch the laughter, frustration and general mayhem as their creative decision-making produces a kaleidoscope of unique and imaginative films. Kiddie TV crews in each episode are given unique access to exciting locations and experiences such as diving with sharks, abseiling down a cliff or learning how to fight a fire.
